Body Glove's Sport Dimension adds Sales VP

The Story
Body Glove International’s wetsuit and PFD arm, Sport Dimension Inc., has promoted Todd Richards to the role of vice president of sales, according to Surfline.
Richards joined Sport Dimension in October 2006, and has since overseen the success of the Carson, Calif.-based company’s development and growth in both core and non-endemic segments of the action sports sales industry.
Body Glove is a water sports brand that specializes in wetsuits, swimwear, clothing, footwear, accessories and technology accessories.
The company, headquartered in Redondo Beach, Calif., sponsors a team of pro surfers and wakeboarders that are some of the most respected in the industry.
The Research
In his most recent capacity prior to his promotion, Richards oversaw Body Glove’s core surf, dive and wake segment that has flourished tremendously.
This segment has also recently hired Matt Patterson as a sales manager, in addition to the six new independent core surf sales reps.
Richards has built a solid reputation as a consistent manager during his tenure at Sport Dimension, which makes him the ideal candidate for the top sales position.
“From day one Todd has brought a level of enthusiasm that has been vital to our growth,” President Kurt Rios said in a statement. “That, coupled with his recent hires in Jono Seigel and Matt Patterson, allows Todd to focus on larger, big picture projects and future growth potential.”
A former professional athlete and action-sports industry vetern, Richards will manage an internal team of two category sales managers and six in-house sales support staffers.
“Body Glove is thrilled to see Todd take a bigger role in the brand’s direction,” said Bill Meistrell, Body Glove’s international senior VP. “He is a committed professional and understands the importance of brand building and utilizing our rich heritage of authenticity and innovation.”
The Nielsen Company reported that Body Glove spent about $800,000 on measured media in 2010. About $790,000 was put toward B-to-B initiatives, about $1,800 was spent on television spots and about $1,300 was put toward Internet ads.
