H2 Media Opps: Sea-Doo, Spyder parent hires new media AOR

Company: Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), Quebec-based vehicle maker known for brands like Sea-Doo and the Can-Am Spyder trike. 

Opportunity: snowmobiles look for ad support to be highest for Sea-Doo, Ski-Doo and Can-Am Spyder.

For Spyder - male boomer-focused sellers should have an advantage since Spyder targets older riders looking for a stabler motorcycle style ride, differentiating it from rival Polaris's Slingshot (research reportedly women, opening up revenue for boomer female-focused sellers too. 

For Sea-Doo/Ski-Doo - with summer already underway, focus your initial pitch more on Ski-Doo snowmobiles, but start laying the groundwork for Ski-Doo summer 2017 buys too. Already, TV outlays for Sea-Doo have been way up this year. Both brands mostly rely on news, auto and sports sites to reach their core male customer.

Incumbent: WPP sibling Geometry, which didn't participate in the review 

TV Breakdown: During the past year, Ski-Doo has spent almost $766,000 on national TV ads, all of which ran from the middle of December until the end of April. Top networks were CW, CBS Sports and ABC. Ski-Doo spent the most to air TV ads during "Seinfeld," "Snowmobile Racing" and "World of X Games."

Sea-Doo has allocated $4.6 million the past year, almost of which has been spent since May (see targeting right)  

Overall, Can-Am has spent about $18.4 million on national TV, about $6 million of which has specifically supported Spyder ads.

Digital Breakdown: All of these brands run most of their desktop ads on news, auto, sports and male entertainment publishers. Top targeted non-endemic sites include: esquire.com, mlb.com, cnet.com, cnn.com, wunderground.com, webmd.com, sfgate.com and howstuffworks.com. 

Can-Am has run the majority of video the last year, followed by Spyder, Ski-doo and Sea-doo. Hobby/interest sites make up most of this activity, led by a bunch of free gaming sites (really?) like starsue.net, notdoppler.com, silergames.com, kizi.com, yepi.com, enagames.com.

Other top targeted sites include: dallasnews.com, chron.com, weather.com and youtube.com.
