BTS Media Opps: Gordmans launching new social media, TV campaign

Opportunity: Launching a new cross-platform social media campaign and 15-second branding commercials in July to improve frequency and reach for the key back-to-school (BTS) revenue period, said Andrew Hall, president and CEO, during the Q1 earnings call. Additionally, Gordmans is testing geo-targeted and localized traditional and digital media strategies for upcoming campaigns during BTS and beyond. 

Spot TV has dominated Gordmans approach for some time, but it appears that the retailer is finally making the switch from print to digital. In fact, almost all of its display ads have been placed programmatically since July 1, here), ads started running in the middle of July.

Media Spend: $3 million went to measured media last year, up 23% from 2014, according to Kantar Media. Since at least 2013, more than 90% of Gordmans’ annual ad budget has supported spot TV ads. The remainder mostly goes to newspaper ads. 

Digital Breakdown: Since July 1, 29 standard and four high impact ads have run on about 1,205 publishers (<1% mobile), 99% of which were placed programmatically versus site direct. Almost all of this activity occurred July 16-Aug. 19, according to Moat
