Opportunity: In April, we told you about RH's intention to make "significant" ad investments for its consumer brands (more Grey Card loyalty program. Additionally, RH will also have "significant" marketing behind its design services and its new design ateliers.
Sellers, thus far, RH has only advertised the Grey Card through email and some online ads in retargeting, but is looking to the fall book mailing to really have a big impact. Look for continued online and email opportunities, as well as print dollars. Keep in mind that ast September, RH decided to "optimize" its media mix, so print, digital and social are all on the table.
2015's display presence was highest in H2, which means that there could still be dollars available for the back half of the year. This is especially true since display spending in 2016 is on pace with 2015. Those that can offer the right mix will certainly have a leg up here. Media is handled in-house.
Media Spend: Per Kantar Media, RH spent $5.02 million on measured media in 2015 - down from $7.4 million in 2014. Most of 2015's spend was allocated to print ads ($3.6 million), while the remainder went to display ($1.1 million) and search ($371,000).
Digital Breakdown: For 2016, RH has run 90 display ads on 1,115 publishers (<1% mobile), according to Moat. Top ad destinations include tcpalm.com, sfgate.com, wwlp.com and mytimes.com (14% placed site direct versus programmatically). RH has also run 12 high impact ads this year on sites such as Design Sponge and Architectural Digest. For the comparable period 2015, RH ran 96 display and 14 high impact ads on 1,152 publishers (36% mobile; 7% placed site direct).
