Conde Nast continues executive shuffles, promotes EVP, chief digital officer

Opportunity: After three months that have seen multiple executive shifts (research here), another exec is on the move at the magazine publisher. Note that Condé Nast scored a 70 in our predictive analysis scoring system in August The company has made several changes to its digital department, so be mindful of increased opportunities in this channel as Condé Nast looks to “lead the charge in the premium digital space.”
Experience: Condé Nast has named Fred Santarpia to the newly created role of EVP and chief digital officer. Santarpia, has served in the same capacity for Condé Nast Entertainment. In his new role for Condé Nast, Santarpia will be responsible for building and executing the company’s enterprise-wide strategy across digital, mobile and emerging platforms. The purpose will be to extend the brand’s reach, strengthen its marketing offerings and deepen relationships with consumers across all of the connected devises audiences are accessing to engage with Condé Nast’s premium content. Of his new position, Santarpia said: “Demand for premium digital content has never been greater. I look forward to expanding the scope and depth of Condé Nast’s digital experiences to take advantage of the current opportunity and the trends in the marketplace. “
The company also announced the restructuring of its digital sales organization under recently-appointed CMO Edward Menicheschi. effective immediately, Lisa Valentino will expand her current role as chief revenue officer of Condé Nast Entertainment to lead digital sales. She will partner with Josh Stinchcomb, who was named SVP of sales strategy. Both will report to Menicheschi and Dawn Ostroff, president of Condé Nast Entertainment. Ostroff will announce a new GM of digital video shortly.
Media Spend: Measured media spend for Condé Nast went up slightly from 2012 to 2013, rising from $97.3 million to $99.7 million. Unsurprisingly, all but $3 million of this was spent on magazine ads, with the other notable spend area being internet display ($1.2 million).
Agency Relationships: According to The List, Heat is the media group's AOR and media buying and planning is handled in-house.
