Opportunity: Added Amy Michaels as marketing and business strategy VP. Michaels comes aboard a year after rebranded itself as a social media network. Instead of simply being a content-driven bulletin board, the site now collects user information such as eating preferences, allergies, shopping habits, etc. in order to provide users with targeted, personalized information and specials. This rebrand was followed by a redesign of Allrecipes' magazine, including a new layout, content and photography. The magazine redesign debuted in the April/May issue and editor-in-chief Cheryl Brown said it was intended to provide readers with a "deeper, richer brand experience" and was inspired by Allrecipes website, which relaunched last fall.

Since Michaels' background includes building digital platforms to drive acquisition and retention, female-focused digital readers should have the leg up here securing work and potential ad revenue. 

Last month, Meredith announced the launch of a new TV show based on the Allrecipes Dinner Spinner app."Dinner Spinner" is a head-to-head home chef competition that premieres Oct. 1 on during The CW Network's "One Magnificent Morning" programming block that targets teens and families (Saturday morning). The TV show will add to Allrecipes existing digital products, a print magazine and a line of licensed cookware products.

Experience: Michaels was head of direct acquisition marketing for T-Mobile the last two years. She has also held various senior level marketing positions with Kindle (Amazon), Wide Angle and Lockerz.

Partnerships: Simply because of its baffling nature, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the partnership between Fox Sports and Announced earlier this year, the companies partnered to launch a Talladega).

This summer, Meredith also announced a two-year, multiplatform partnership with Reynolds Consumer Products. Per the agreement, native and editorial customer content, including video, recipe integration and geo-targeted shopper marketing units will be produced. For example, a recipe video on Allrecipes will feature Reynolds Wrap Aluminum foil. The partnership is also a collaboration with Havas Media and "introduces Reynolds products to consumers at a time when they are reading about content tangentially related to Reynolds products," SVP of Meredith Digital Marc Rothschild told Publishers Daily.

Target Audience: Meredith Corporation, Allrecipes' parent, is "the nation's leading media company serving 102 million American women - including three out of four millennial women." 

Digital Breakdown: So far this year, Allrecipes has spent $7,700 on two desktop ads (2.5 million impressions), according to Pathmatics. The two desktop ads have run from the end of June to the present on and Almost all were placed through SSP PubMatic (98%). For 2016, less than $200 has been spent on mobile and video ads (52,000 impressions).

For full 2015, $8,800 was spent on seven desktop ads (670,800 impressions) and $900 was spent on two mobile ads (82,600 impressions).

It should come as no surprise that food & drink and home & garden sites receive the bulk of Allrecipes' ad presence.
