Q2-Q4 Media Opps: Georgia Tourism launches “Pretty.Sweet” TV campaign to keep state on tourists' ...

Subject: TV, digital, social, print, radio, outdoor

Company: Winmo)

Opportunity: This month, Georgia Tourism launched its spring TV campaign – “Pretty.Sweet.” The campaign showcases the state’s beauty and the two spots will run in multiple drive markets through the Southeast in May.

“Pretty.Sweet” was initially created in 2015, and that campaign ran across print, radio, digital, social, OOH and web platforms. However, the spring introduction of TV buys is a first for the tourism campaign and the first TV campaign for Georgia Tourism in nearly 10 years. The spots, according to deputy tourism commissioner Kevin Langston, are meant “to encourage visitors to Explore Georgia’s tourism offerings that make us so unique.”

Sellers – the addition of TV spots signals a larger push for Georgia Tourism this year, so those in drive markets around the state and throughout the Southeast should reach out for potential dollars. Keep in mind that the tourism organization has dubbed 2016 “The Year of Georgia Music” and will prominently feature the state’s unique music through all of its marketing channels. Therefore, sellers that target music lovers should have a leg up here.

Digital sellers should also note that Georgia’s display presence in 2015 was  highest in Q4, so there may still be time to secure ad dollars for late 2016. However, in 2014, display activity was relatively even all year and increased presence in 2016 could signal a return to steady buys. TV sellers should also keep the tourism organization on their radar – if the spring campaign performs well, it could lead to a fall campaign.

The TV spots were created by Ga. Tourism’s AOR, Dalton Agency

Additional Information

Digital Breakdown: Per Moat, Georgia Tourism has run 14 display ads on 159 publishers so far in 2016 (<1% mobile). Top ad destinations include ajc.com, georgiatrend.com, bascar.com, theweek.com and christian-dogma.com (17% placed site direct, as opposed to programmatically).  The organization has also run two video ads on five publishers: weather.com, youtube.com, tasteofhome.com, babycenter.com and addictivetips.com (96% site direct).

For comparison, the same period 2015 saw the state run five display ads on only 31 publishers, so increases are in effect.

For FY 2015, Georgia ran 12 display and two video ads on 103 publishers (16% placed site direct). While the volume of buys has increased in 2016, targeting has remained almost exactly the same.
