HomePortfolio Inc., a collaborative search Web site for home design products and services, appointed Ellen Glew as the new vice president of marketing and business development, according to the company
Glew joins the Newton, Mass.-based company with 25 years of marketing and sales experience and 15 years in the architecture and design market.
In 1992, Glew founded the Restoration & Renovation trade show, which she sold to Restore Media in 2000. The company is now known as the Traditional Building Exhibition and Conference.
More recently, she has worked with a variety of media companies serving the home design market, including Gloucester Publishers. Early on in her career, Glew headed up international business development for Comdex, a computer trade show.
HomePortfolio is the only Internet search company focused on home design collaboration. The company’s Web site offers a design product and service search, and showcases 700,000 products from 2,055 of the best manufacturer brands, as well as information on 100,000 local showrooms.

Editor Jocelyn Hutt about Glew’s new position at the company and her openness to proposals and strategic partnerships.
Hutt said that in the past, HomePortfolio was very well funded, but with the major shift in Internet search engines like Google, the site mainly utilizes its relationships with editors and publishers from relevant print publications to get the word out.
“We were well branded years ago, (but) we haven’t done any traditional print for a number of years,” she said.
Hutt said that Glew is perfect for her new position because she’s a classic sales person who sees the big picture but is extremely tactical.
“She’s bringing all her experience with print sales, trade shows and understanding of relationship building and business development,” Hutt said. “She’s not going to be changing the business model, but she’ll be helping us hone it and carry it forward. She leads by example, she sets her own sales quota and she can absolutely be a chief and an indian.”
Hutt thinks that Glew’s greatest strength for HomePortfolio in the short term will be building media related strategic partnerships on both a national and local scale.
She said that Glew would “absolutely” be open to proposals and strategic partnerships, particularly with agencies that work with larger manufacturers. Hutt said that Glew would be a great person to speak with about strategic partnerships and future brand building initiatives.
Agencies that are interested in working with HomePortfolio should contact Glew with either a strategic partnership proposal or with ideas for her future business development tactics. Hutt divulged that Glew is open to hearing from everyone and helping home design businesses that are in need of its Web services and ad space. Come up with new ways for the site to advertise its services in other capacities besides its relationships with publications.
