Opportunity: According to SEC documents filed Tuesday, Bassett’s SVP of Retail and Marketing Jason Camp, is leaving the company after nine years. Camp oversaw retail and brand strategies around Bassett Furniture Direct stores. We don’t know if Camp has been replaced yet, but we will keep you updated of any further news when we receive it. As with any change at the top, look for marketing strategies to be assessed, which means spending and roster changes may be imminent. In the meantime, put media pitches together for the second half of the year, when Bassett tends to buy most of its media.
Media Spend Breakdown: According to Kantar Media, BF spent $11.4 million on measured media in 2014, which is up 12.6% from 2013. Most of this, $9.4 million, was allocated to broadcast spend, while $1.2 million went to digital.
According to Moat, 100% of Bassett’s 2014 standard display ads were purchased directly from the publisher (newson6.com and cbslocal.com). Moat reports that ads were run exclusively at the end of the year – mid-Dec. to Jan.
Per iSpot.tv, Bassett spent $13.5 million on national TV ads in 2014. The most money was spent to run ads on HGTV, ABC, CBS and Bravo during shows such as “Good Morning America,” “Property Brothers,” “House Hunters International” and “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”
