Momvertising Opps: Morningstar Farms ramping up marketing

Brand: Kellogg Co. that produces vegetarian food options in meatless variations of traditionally meat-based products.

Opportunity: After completing a difficult packaging transition for the entire Morningstar line, Kellogg CEO John Bryant announced in the Q2 2016 earnings call that he brand will ramp up marketing in the back half of the year. Morningstar's marketing efforts thus far have relied heavily on print, which has taken up the largest portion of media spend over the past two years, according to Kantar Media. However, recently digital spending has been on the rise.

As the brand begins a heavier marketing push, expect print and digital outlays to rise. Additionally, look for social media, online and video to increase, as well. Although the brand hasn't run any national TV since 2013, it recently released a docu-series titled "The Veg Effect," demonstrating how eating more veggie meals has created positive change. So, look for video focused projects like this continue, to coincide with the brands image. 

Therefore, digital and print sellers should begin reaching out now to pick up revenue as it becomes available. Focus your pitch around high engagement among healthy lifestyle heads of household.

Digital Breakdown: Since January, Pathmatics reports that Morningstar has spent $701,200 on 38 desktop ads, which has resulted in 142 million impressions thus far. 99% of the ads were placed site-direct versus programmatically. Top ad destinations include amazon.com, good.is and momtastic.com.

This is a big jump in spending from last year, as the brand spent $126,400 for all of 2015.
