H1 Media Opps: Smart & Final moves media amid ad hike

Opportunity: The rival to s as media AOR, opening up ad revenue for Southwest and Northwest sellers. Don't discount this relatively small account. Sure, spending has been low in the past but TV and digital outlays have been up the past two years.

Besides local news sellers, revenue should be in play for weather and entertainment sites, based on S&F's display presence the last year. Revenue should be available year-round but Q2 has been the grocer's top advertising period since 2015, Kantar Media reports.

Additional Insight

Media Spend: $2.2 million was spent on measured media through the end of Q2, almost twice as much as the $1.3 million spent for all of 2015, according to Kantar. The bulk of spending this year has supported spot TV, national spot radio and display ads. 

Digital Breakdown: Since last November, $70,700 has gone to display. 71% of which was desktop and the bulk of which ran April-July. About 76% of the 21 million impressions were bought via ad network Gogle AdX + AdSense, while 15% were bought site direct.
