New CEO for Icicle Seafoods

The Story
Leading seafood harvesting and processing company Icicle Seafoods Inc. has named a new chief executive officer to take over this summer, according to the Seattle Times.
Effective July 1, Dennis Guhlke will succeed longtime CEO Don Giles, who is retiring from the Seattle-based company on June 30. Giles has been with Icicle Seafoods for 36 years, and had served as CEO since 1994.
Guhlke was promoted to the top spot at Icicle Seafoods after serving for nearly a decade as the company’s chief financial officer. He has served in a number of other roles at the company during his 16-year tenure.
“I look forward to building on Don’s legacy and Icicle’s considerable strengths to take the next step forward in our company’s proud history,” Guhlke said in a company release.
Icicle Foods catches, processes and markets a range of seafood including salmon, pollock, black cod, herring, halibut, fish roe and more. Some of its brands include Pacific Dragon, Black Top, Honey Boy and Ship Ahoy.
The Research
For the three years following his departure at Icicle Seafoods, Giles will continue to work with the company on various projects.
“We look forward to continuing to work with Don in the future. He has been an incredible leader of the company, and has developed a strong team that will enable icicle to continue to grow and thrive,” board member Mitchell Presser said in a company release.
In the past year under Giles’ leadership, Icicle Seafoods acquired Smoki Foods, a processor and marketer of fresh seafood, as well as its subsidiary brands American Gold Seafoods and Cypress Island Seafoods. Additionally, the company bought a new processing vessel, Stellar Sea. Guhlke will be charged with continuing the company’s positive growth in the future.
Taking over for Guhlke in the CFO position is Brenda Morris, effective immediately. She joins the company after having served as chief operating officer and CFO of iFloor Inc., one of the largest online flooring products retailers in America.
The Direction
Keep Icicle on a long-term prospect list until Guhlke is officially in the CEO position. The company may look for B-to-B firms with experience in the food industry to assist with marketing messages.
