Anyway, to be fair, the WPP shop did develop the original “Nationwide is on your side” slogan more than 50 years ago and has worked with the insurer since 2014 on campaigns featuring living people like Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Peyton Manning. 

Historically, Nationwide's top buying periods tend to be Q2 and Q4, but keep in mind that last year most of its ads ran during the first half of the year. An edge should continue to go news, sports, finance and entertainment sellers.

Hopefully you've already been going after this account for months, but if not, now's the time to possibly get on the longlist. It's doubtful since this news made it to the trades, but you never know. Note that media AOR UM has had the account since 2005, well past average AOR tenure, making it vulnerable, as well.

News, finance, sports and entertainment sellers should be all over this since a new campaign will be on the way in the coming months, maybe weeks. Historically Nationwide's top buying periods have tended to be Q2 and Q4, but last year most of its ads ran during the first half of the year. 

Additional Insight

Media Spend: According to Kantar Media, Nationwide spent $395.2 million on measured media in 2014 – a 26.5% increase over 2013. The overwhelming majority of this supported TV ads. Hispanic media received $128.2 million, while digital spend was only $24.8 million.

TV Breakdown: $190.4 million went to national TV ads last year (see targeting right), up from $130.5 million in 2014, according to iSpot.tv.

Digital Breakdown: Last year, news and personal finance sites dominated Nationwide's desktop display presence, though entertainment was a substantial part of the mix, as well, Moat reports. Top 100 publishers targeted the most included marketwatch.com, bet.com, yahoo.com, thestreet.com, about.com and nascar.com. 

However, mobile ads centered almost equally on news and entertainment, while video heavily targeted sports sites, led by nascar.com. This makes sense because Nationwide is the official auto, home and life insurance partner of NASCAR.
