Dell hires HP marketer as new Marketing VP for IT, biz solutions unit
, the computer giant’s global IT services and business solutions unit, appointed Hewlett-Packard marketer Mona Charif to lead marketing and communications across all the company's business lines.
As vice president of marketing, Charif, with 20 years of IT experience, is responsible for marketing strategy, branding, corporate events, sponsorships, internal and external communications, and demand generation and sales enablement. She reports to Chief Sales Officer David Lee.
“Mona (pictured left) is a recognized leader with proven success driving marketing programs in the IT services industry,” Lee stated in a. “Her expertise makes her a natural extension of our team, and her leadership and creativity will help ensure that our vision and strategy is communicated clearly and consistently to the industry, our customers and our team members.”

Charif joins Dell during its shift to enterprise from the consumer PC arena, which continues to struggle. The company reported in August that revenue from its consumer business fell 22 percent during the second quarter, compared to a year ago.
In comparison, Dell Services almost $1 billion in new customer wins and expanded offerings for existing customers during Q2. The business grew three percent to 2.1 billion, driven by seven percent growth in Support and Deployment and 35 percent growth in Security.
“Across industries, companies need solutions that boost customer service and help them stay ahead of the competition while streamlining business to cut costs and improve the bottom line,” Steve Schuckenbrock, president of Dell Services, stated in a release. “Dell is establishing that it can go into any market or customer segment and help with this through transformative technology and services.”
Dell just, one of the largest providers of IT management software with $857 million in annual sales. Quest is the foundation of a $1 billion-plus annual revenue software business, according to Dell.
This acquisition is the latest in several enterprise deals for Dell. Since February, Dell has announced six transactions, including

Earlier this year, Dell moved its consumer advertising back to WPP’s, which already was the computer marketer’s global AOR for brand work. WinmoEdge has been unable to verify which agencies are working on the enterprise side.
Round Rock, Texas-based Dell’s advertising spend has fallen during the past three years, according to Kantar Media. Last year, the computer maker spent almost $209 million, down from $305.5 million in 2009.
