For example, Peluso's consumer marketing expertise should come in handy as Watson artificial intelligence pushes into the consumer ad space, though this creative is really targeting business decision makers (BDMs) because they're people too, you know. Therefore, B2B tech and consumer-focused agencies that can make IBM relevant again should start going after work here. The brand is due for a major revamp. 

Sellers - similarly, this marketing transformation opens up more BDM and consumer ad revenue, along with the usual tech decision maker buys, across IBM's business lines, including hardware, cloud, security, analytics and ECM. WPP's Neo@OgilvyOne handles the bulk of IBM's media account.

Media Spend: $136.7 million went to measured media last year, up 52% from $89.7 million in 2014, according to Kantar Media. About half of last year's budget supported broadcast, mostly network TV ads. The remainder primarily went to display, search print, and out-of-home (OOH). 

TV Breakdown: During the last year, $57.2 million has gone to national TV, most of which has supported Watson ads (see targeting right). This is almost double the $29 million allocated during the same period a year earlier, iSpot.tv reports. 

Digital Breakdown: Since last Oct., $29.7 million has garnered 3.2 billion desktop impressions, 82% of which was bought site direct, according to Pathmatics. Top targeted sites include forbes.com, nytimes.com, espn.com, businessinsider.com, youtube.com, slashdot.org, time.com and gizmodo.com. 

Almost $18 million has been allocated during that span for 573 million video impressions, 90% of which were direct buys on sites sites such as cnn.com, epsn.com, wsj.com, cnbc.com, youtube.com, bloomberg.com and weather.com. 

About $2.1 million went to 277.6 million impressions, 82% of which were site direct on many of the same desktop and video partners. Forbes.com accounted for 41% of these impressions, while no other site eclipsed 6%.
