Nintendo scores new Marketing, Sales EVP

The Story
Videogame giant Nintendo of America has hired Scott Moffitt to serve as its new executive vice president of sales and marketing, The Tanooki reports.
Moffitt most recently served with Henkel Consumer Goods as senior VP and general manager of its Personal Care division, overseeing the North American operations of personal-care brands like Dial, Right Guard, Tone and Pure & Natural.
His more than 20 years of leadership and marketing experience also includes time spent at PepsiCo, where he helped revitalize the SoBe brand portfolio and spearheaded the launch of Mountain Dew Code Red and AMP Energy Drink.
As a marketing director and manager at the beverage giant, Moffitt also directed product development and repositioning efforts for several top brands, including Mountain Dew, Sierra Mist, Aquafina and Mug Old Fashioned Root Beer.
Known for its almost 30-year-old "Super Mario Brothers" gaming franchise, Redmond, Wash.-based Nintendo of America currently manufactures and markets hardware and software for the Wii and Nintendo DS game systems.
The company launched the Nintendo 3DS, a handheld gaming device with a 3D screen, in the U.S. on March 27.
The Research
Reporting to President Reggie Fils-Aime, Moffitt took his new post Monday and is responsible for Nintendo’s sales and marketing activities throughout North America.
He will work from the company’s office in Redwood City, Calif.
“Scott Moffitt makes a marvelous addition to the Nintendo team,” Fils-Aime stated in a release. “His expertise in driving growth will be a terrific asset as we build momentum for the Nintendo 3DS system and continue to reach new audiences for the Wii console.”
Moffitt added in a statement that Nintendo is a brand unlike any other and that he looks forward to helping the shape the company’s future.
The new hire’s position had been vacant since October when Cammie Dunaway left Nintendo to pursue a career outside of the interactive entertainment industry.
She ended up joining KidZania, Inc., which operates educational theme parks where children play adult roles in kids-sized cities, as president and global chief marketing officer to help with its entry into the United States (WinmoEdge article).
Moffitt comes on board just after Nintendo appointed 20-year consumer brand veteran Cynthia Gordon as its new VP of corporate affairs March 14 (WinmoEdge article).
Last month, Nintendo teamed up with JetBlue to let travelers in Terminal 5 at John F. Kennedy International Airport use its new Nintendo 3DS system.

“JetBlue's T5 at JFK has delivered a superior ground experience since day one, with great shops, restaurants and entertainment,” JetBlue’s Director of Concessions Mitch Nadler said on the record. “We are always looking for exciting and innovative ways to entertain our customers. Through this partnership, we have succeeded again by giving our JFK customers a chance to experience Nintendo's amazing 3D technology.”
