Opportunity: reportedly nearing the end of two separate reviews for agencies to handle creative and media. This comes as it aspires to regain its musical soul to take back millennials from Freeform and other hip networks. We'll have to wait and see if the reinvention means "MTV Unplugged" is really coming back or they're giving teen moms a guitar. 

The review is closed and will be completed in a few weeks. So, hopefully you've already been reaching out since May, when MTV first debuted on the VAI (research here) with the arrival of MLB marketer Jacqueline Parkes, an interesting choice since MLB has struggled to stay relevant with the young people, as well. 

With new cross-platform campaign dollars soon to be up for grabs, millennial-focused sellers should make sure they're top-of-mind with in-house decision makers, Millennials have I want my MTV."

Incumbent: Publicis's 

Media Spend: $15.7 million was spent on measured media last year, up 52% from $10.3 million in 2014, according to Kantar Media. At $6 million, outdoor made up the bulk of MTV's ad budget last year. Most of the remainder, about $4.8 million, went to cable TV ads.

TV Breakdown: During the last 12 months, $3.6 million has been spent on national TV ads (see breakdown right), down from $5.4 million during the prior year period, according to iSpot.tv.

Digital Breakdown: Since last October, $6 million has garnered 677.4 million desktop impressions, 86% of which were site direct, Pathmatics reports. About $2.9 million was spent on 157.7 million YouTube impressions. Other top targeted sites have included ratemyprofessors.com, imdb.com, wikia.com, worldstarhiphop.com, pitchfork.com and refinery29.com. 

Combined, about $3 million has been spent on 300 million mobile and video impressions (heavier mobile impression skew). About 87% of mobile spent and impressions came from ratemyprofessors.com. Almost all of the video spend was with YouTube and worldstarhiphop.com.
