CBS Interactive hires new Prez

The Story
Online content network CBS Interactive has named Jim Lanzone as its new president after entering into an agreement to acquire his company, Clicker Media, Inc., parent to Internet television guide Clicker, the Los Angeles Times reports.
“This is such an incredible opportunity,” Lanzone said in a prepared statement. “Leslie (Moonves) and the CBS Interactive team have created an unrivaled arsenal of Internet properties – properties that have unlimited potential for expansion. I look forward to beginning my new role and working with the team to help lead CBS into the future of online information and entertainment.”
Before forming Clicker, the new appointee served as chief executive officer of (formerly Ask Jeeves), and is considered to be one of the foremost executives responsible for turning the search engine around before it was acquired by IAC/InterActiveCorp in 2005.
With leading properties like CNET, and, San Francisco-based CBS Interactive, a division of CBS Corporation, attracts hundreds of millions of unique visitors worldwide every month, making it a global top 10 Web property.
Launched in November 2009, Clicker, with headquarters also in San Francisco, provides users with a directory to more than one million online streams of shows and movies from free and paid services.
Clicker reaches more than 2.5 million monthly users through its site, recommendation engine, and social integration through Facebook.
The Research
Leslie Moonves, president and chief executive officer of CBS Corporation, expressed a deep excitement about bringing Lanzone on board at CBS Interactive, explaining that Lanzone was chosen due to his creativity and familiarity with the interactive space as one of its key players.
“Throughout his career, he has proven to be both a leader and an innovator, and now he'll bring both of those skills to help CBS Interactive build on its success,” Moonves continued. “In these last couple of years, we've grown CBS into a top 10 global Internet property. I'm confident that with Jim at the helm, we will continue to expand our digital footprint, and capitalize on our scale in this fast-growing marketplace.”
He continued in a statement that acquiring Clicker’s products and proprietary technology will add “firepower to [CBS’s] existing portfolio of entertainment properties.
“If we can help grow Clicker to its full potential in the years ahead, the strategic value could be tremendous,” Moonves added.
CBS did not disclose how much it paid for Clicker, though both parties are predicting that the deal will be finalized by next week.
Lanzone is succeeding Neil Ashe, who served as president of CBS Interactive since it acquired technology news source CNET Networks, Inc., in June 2008. Ashe said in December last year that he'd be leaving the company once it found his replacement.
Sarah Cain, vice president of communications, told WinmoEdge that Lanzone is not available for an in-depth interview at this time because he is traveling and will need more time to settle into his new function first.
Lanzone did provide some additional information to The New York Times, saying that Clicker, the TV Guide of the Internet, would not be adjusted to favor CBS content because then nobody would use it.
He added that being alongside popular sister sites like CNET, will help Clicker even reach more users.
Dallas, Texas-based Slingshot, LLC, currently helps CBS Interactive with its digital advertising, according to The List database.
The Nielsen Company reported that CBS Interactive allocated $20.3 million towards national advertising in 2009. About $10.2 million was spent on Internet ads, about $8.8 million was spent on network television ads and about $1.2 million was spent on spot television ads.
The List database was unable to confirm which firms, if any, help Clicker with its marketing efforts.
