Paramount combines two units, names new CMO, Domestic Marketing Prez

Paramount Melds Two Units: Los Angeles-based Paramount Pictures has announced that it’s restructuring several divisions and combining its home entertainment and licensing operations, a move that reflects the growing importance of digital distribution and international markets.
The studio will create a new division, called Home Media Distribution, to oversee its home entertainment, digital and television licensing activities worldwide, according to The Wall Street Journal. Dennis Maguire, formerly the studio's president of worldwide home entertainment, will lead the new organization, which will be based in Los Angeles.
Previously, Paramount’s home entertainment and digital licensing divisions were separate but the publication is reporting that the blurring nature of negotiating content rights for online streaming services and pay television prompted the change.
As such, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Brad Grey added that this new structure will allow the studio to be more flexible.
“This new structure will allow us to more effectively take advantage of world-wide opportunities, adjust to the changing marketplace and propel us forward on a unified, global basis,” he said in a release.
Paramount is also centralizing its global theatrical management operations in Los Angeles, tapping current Co-President of Domestic Marketing Josh Greenstein, as the studio's new chief marketing officer.
His duties will include overseeing all marketing efforts through all distribution channels for the studio world-wide.
Megan Colligan, who also served as co-president of domestic marketing, received an expanded role and is now overseeing all domestic theatrical distribution and marketing for the studio as president of domestic marketing and distribution.
As part of the overall restructuring, the studio will dissolve its Paramount Digital Entertainment unit, which is responsible for online game and content creation, as well as distribution to sites such as iTunes and Facebook. Paramount said the unit's responsibilities will be folded into other divisions.
Also, Tom Lesinksi, currently the president of Paramount Digital Entertainment, is leaving the studio and Jim Tharp, president of domestic theatrical distribution is retiring.
Earlier this year, Paramount promoted Dora Candelaria to VP of international publicity (WinmoEdge article).
Nielsen reported that Paramount Pictures allocated $403.4 million towards advertising in 2010. About $147.2 million was spent on cable television ads, about $121.6 million was spent on network television ads and about $49.4 million was spent on spot television ads.
