Opportunity: Named Jill Cress as CMO to oversee the brand strategy and marketing for NGP's entire portfolio. In Sept. 2015, NatGeo gave 21st Century Fox control of its media properties, such as its magazine, book, map and other media assets, e.g NatGeo TV. Under the agreement, Fox will control 73% of the operation, called National Geographic Partners, and the non-profit National Geographic Society will retain control of 27% of the organization.
Note that while NatGeo Society actually partnered with Fox in 1997 to launch its TV channel, it had, until 2015, retained ownership and direction of all media properties. NatGeo TV named a new CMO last January (more here).

Media Spend: According to Kantar Media, NGP spent $9.1 million on measured media in 2015 - most of which was allocated to print and digital ads.
Digital Breakdown: Pathmatics reports that NGP has spent $655,400 on desktop ads so far this year (125.8 million impressions). Most of these ads have run since July and were placed through Google AdX + AdSense (43%) and site direct (41%). Top desktop destinations have included: wsj.com, girlsgogames.com, youtube.com and watchcartoononline.com.
An additional $220,000 has been spent on online video (10.8 million impressions) and $20,000 has been spent on mobile ads (5.3 million impressions).
