Luxury Media Opps: Loews Hotels searching for US creative, media agency

Opportunity: We'll cop to being slightly off on this forecast, but not by too much. Loews Hotels & Resorts, which AdAge, Avidan Strategies is leading the review, but other details have yet to come to light. We hope long-time DV agency readers were able to get in this review, which illustrates how important it is to think long-term about securing agency business.
Loews' media spend is largely allocated to digital display, search and print ads. Luxury-focused sellers in these channels should start engaging in-house decision makers, who determine usually help potential partners and can point you to the new agency.
For 2016, most of Loews' display ads were deployed at the beginning for the year, so Q1 should be another heavy spend period for the boutique hotel chain. Specifically, look for regional ad revenue n the areas surrounding the chains' 23 locations, as well as buys that will reach a high-end, luxury audience of older millennial and Gen X travelers.

Media Spend: Kantar Media reports that Loews Hotels spent $17.6 million on measured media in 2015. Most of this spend went to search ads (69.1%) and print ads (25.9%). Digital (desktop/mobile) accounted for approximately 7.4% of 2015's spend (see breakdown below).
Digital Breakdown: Per Pathematics, Loews has spent $1.8 million on 196 desktop display ads this year, which have generated 434 million impressions. While ad presence spiked in January, sellers should note that ads have run consistently throughout 2016 thus far. Eight percent of these ads were placed site direct, while 88% were placed through ad networks such as Google AdX + Ad Sense (86%), Curse Network (1%) and RadiumOne (1%).
Ads placed directly appeared on sites such as realtor.com, Publishers Clearing House and wikia.com. Programmatic ads were placed on youtube.com, imgur.com and The Weather Company.
Also, Loews has spent an additional $37,800 on 73 mobile ads, 84% of which were placed through ad networks on sites such as orbitz.com and zillow.com.
For the same period 2015, Loews spent only $500,000 million on 247 desktop display ads, which generated 89.5 million impressions. 2015's desktop ads were placed mostly through ad networks (76%) and direct (22%). From January to mid-August 2015, Loews spent $33,900 on 64 mobile ads (33% placed site direct; 60% through ad networks). Total desktop/mobile spend for 2015 was around $1.3 million.
Executive Appointments: CEO Kirk Kinsell joined the company in March 2015 (more here).
He was replaced by George Fleck, who joined Loews in April 2016 as SVP of marketing and branding from Starwood Hotels.
At the beginning of 2016, Oliver Bonke joined Loews as chief commercial officer. Bonke previously served as chief commercial officer of the Americas for IHG.
Sustained Struggles: In last week's Q2 earnings call, Loews' parent company reported a net loss of $65 million, opposed to the bet income of $170 million in Q2 2015. However, Loews' Hotels revenue actually increased 13% in Q2 (compared to the same quarter a year prior).
