Q4-Q2 Media Opps: Further insight into Vail Resorts' digital media shift

Opportunity: Peak skiing season is around the corner, so travel endemic and millennial entertainment/lifestyle sellers should keep plowing away at Vail and their new media agency decision makers. We've received further clarification (research Emico still handles traditional media and online video, for now.
TMK has already had Vail for several weeks and the ski resort operator's fiscal year began August 1, meaning the Q4 (winter season)-Q2 (spring/summer season) planning/buying should be well underway by now.
Media Spend: Vail Resorts has spent about $3.5 million annually on measured media since 2014, most of which is allocated during Q4 and Q2, Kantar Media reports. About half of last year's budget went to print, mainly B2B magazines. The remainder mostly supported out-of-home (OOH) and display.
Digital Breakdown: Since last year, $1.5 million has garnered 272.7 million desktop impressions (see spend share breakdown right), according to Pathmatics. Most of the DSP impressions have gone through The Trade Desk. Almost a quarter of these impressions came from cloudfront.net. Other top targeted sites include onthesnow.com, thechive.com, healthline.com, tripadvisor.com, youtube.com and opensnow.com.
About $444,000 has funded 78.2 million mobile impressions, 70% of which were purchased direct from sites such as cloudfront.net, thechive.com, onthesnow.com, expedia.com and tripadvisor.com.
Approximately the same amount was spent on 32.1 million video impressions, 32% of which were purchased site direct and 28% of which were purchased from The Trade Desk. Top targeted sites include crackle.com, biography.com, history.com, stack.com and foxnews.com.
