Digital, Branding Opps Update: Monitronics taps new PR agency after expanding marketing staff (Score 78)

Update (8/24): Only a month after adding two new marketing directors to its roster (more info below), Monitronics has named Harte Hanks is handling paid digital, search and social marketing efforts.
Keep in mind that typically PR agencies are the first roster change for companies in high growth mode. So, media and creative shops should reach keeping out. Decision makers will be most receptive to digital and online strategies.

Opportunity: Announced that it has added two new Directors of Marketing: Renee Mallonee and Mike Bek. In these new roles, Mallonee will focus on PR, branding and dealer marketing, while Bek will focus on digital marketing and analytics. These additions come at a pivotal time for the company, as it puts a renewed energy towards bringing new cutting-edge products and smart home technology to its 1.2 million customers. Moving forward, the two will work closely to shape the brand, voice, online strategy and community presence of Monitronics, putting an emphasis on comprehensive customer communication and keeping the company ahead of the curve in smart-home technology and monitored security.
Keep in mind that although the companies ad spend presence has been very minimal thus far, adding new decision makers is almost a sure sign that marketing efforts will increase, especially since the company also appointed Frank Guido as its new CMO in November 2015. Therefore, look for an increase in digital, online, PR and branding, specifically. Although most of this is handled in-house, new decision makers always signal a potential for change. Although only one is a new hire and the other is just a promotion, big changes could be on the horizon as the new marketing team begins planning. Additionally, digital sellers who can reach millennial household decision makers should have an advantage securing revenue and should begin making introductions to Mallonee and Bek soon.
Experience: Mallonee has been with Monitronics for almost 10 years, most recently serving as the marketing manager for the past seven years. Bek brings almost 20 years of experience working in Marketing, Operations and Customer Acquisition. His most recent role before joining Monitronics was principal consultant at Aleutian Consulting. Prior to that, he spent time working for Windstream, where he served as the director of small business solutions and director of marketing communications.
